And the cancellations continue... This time it's for the beloved NBC series Lopez vs. Lopez. The TV network has officially announced that the family comedy sitcom will not be returning for a fourth season. Despite its heartfelt storylines, positive reception, and strong performances from real-life father-daughter duo George and Mayan Lopez, the show couldn’t escape the chopping block. Now, where are we to look for the same heartwarming and comedic magic that Lopez vs. Lopez delivered each week? I'll wait.
Lopez vs. Lopez joins other recent NBC cancellations like the crime drama series The Irrational, the comedy sitcom Night Court, the procedural drama series Found and the legal drama Suits LA. Unfortunately, the trend of cancellations seems to be continuing, leaving fans of these shows frustrated and disappointed. With NBC trimming down its lineup, viewers are left wondering what other shows might be next. Fates of NBC series such as Brilliant Minds, Grosse Pointe Garden Society and The Hunting Party are still up in the air. We can only hope that these shows will be given the chance they deserve. But for now, it’s a waiting game.

Co-created by George and Mayan Lopez and Debby Wolfe, Lopez vs. Lopez told the story of a father-daughter duo navigating the challenges of their relationship. George and Mayan both played fictionalized versions of themselves in the series. George portrayed a working-class father who, after his moving company goes bankrupt, is forced to move in with his daughter, Mayan, and her family. However, after years of estrangement, the transition isn't easy. George's arrival shakes up Mayan's stable life, and both of them face the challenge of rebuilding trust while navigating their differences.
On top of that, they also have to deal with Mayan's mom and George’s ex-wife, Rosie, who frequently shows up unannounced either to visit Mayan or to throw some jabs at George. Orange Is the New Black star Selenis Leyva played Rosie. Also in the cast were Matt Shively, Brice Gonzalez, Al Madrigal, and many others.
This comedy sitcom was seriously funny yet equally touching, delivering a mix of laughs and heartfelt moments. It's a real shame that we only got to see three seasons, as the chemistry between George and Mayan Lopez, as well as the dynamic with the supporting characters, made it such a standout. It will definitely be missed. Perhaps in the future, we'll see George and Mayan together again in a new project. Fingers crossed!
