It's been five years since Supernatural ended, but there may be hope of it returning in the future.

Supernatural may have ended in 2020, but there are fans out there who still want another season (and much more). There are constant calls for it to be revived, but the actors have moved on to other projects since then.

Well, just because the actors have moved on to other projects doesn’t mean that a Supernatural reboot can’t happen. In fact, Jensen Ackles has some positive words for the SPN Family. Look, we always knew with this show that what’s dead doesn’t stay dead!

While promoting his new series Countdown on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Jensen Ackles answered questions about Supernatural. He won’t say “never” to a reboot or revival of this series. In fact, he makes it clear that the series is still near and dear to his heart.

"I mean, look, it's always hanging out there. I think there's a reason we did it for 15 years. We enjoyed it. We enjoyed each other. We enjoyed the story, the characters. It was hard to hang it up, but I don't know that we ever hang it up in Supernatural."

The show ran for 15 seasons, and it’s not like The CW was done with it. This is one of those shows that could have kept going, and everyone involved at the end enjoyed what they were doing. As he said, “I don’t know that we ever hang it up in Supernatural” makes it clear that there is always hope for the future.

After all, Ackles did bring the show back with a prequel series. The Winchesters followed Mary and John’s story before they married, although there were some clear changes from the start. The ending of the first season shared why those changes happened, with Dead finding an alternate universe in the hope that he could give his parents the happily ever after he thought they deserved. That show only lasted for one season, but not due to quality. The CW went through some major changes, leading to almost all of the shows on the network getting canceled.

One of the benefits of Supernatural is that it's finding a new audience all the time. Running for 15 seasons and having all those seasons on Netflix makes it a fun and accessible binge-watch. Plus, there are still plenty of conventions, which keep the show on the minds of people, leading to a lot of hopes for a reboot or revival.

Why did Supernatural come to an end?

So, if everyone loved Supernatural and the series was one of those that could be revived, why did it end five years ago? That was all due to the actors.

There was a lot going on at the time. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki had young families in Texas. They would travel between British Columbia, where they filmed, and Texas every week to be able to film and spend time with their families. That eventually took its toll on them, and they needed to hang up Supernatural for their own mental health. Based on the way Ackles was able to take projects out of state while Padalecki found one in his hometown, I’d guess that it was more for Padalecki than Ackles.

The CW wasn’t done with the series, and neither were the fans. This was a cast decision, but not an easy one to make, which keeps the door open for the future.

Supernatural is available to stream on Netflix.
