There are changes coming to the Chicago Fire cast in season 14. These changes were announced before season 13 came to an end, but we had hoped to at least see characters come back for a final goodbye.
In some positive news, one of the exiting characters will be back. We know that Daniel Kyri is getting an exit storyline in Chicago Fire season 14, but it doesn’t look like every exiting cast member is getting that.
Now, when it comes to Michael Bradway, it wasn’t due to the network or the show, but due to Bradway’s availability. So, we can accept that Damon may not be back for the Chicago Fire season 14 premiere. When it comes to Jake Lockett, though, we’re not impressed.

Sam Carver’s exit seemed to be written into the Chicago Fire season 13 finale
Carver isn’t just disappearing in between seasons. Jake Lockett’s character had an exit storyline crafted back in Chicago Fire season 13. After finally deciding it was time to get a handle on his drinking, he realized that Chicago wasn’t the place for him.
Carver shared that he had got a position at with the Denver fire department, and that he was going to move there for a clean slate. It hurts to see him go, but that is likely the exit that’s happening.
Yes, that is despite the way Chicago Fire season 13 ended for Violet and Carver. Carver read the letter that Violet had written to him while he was in rehab, and he decided to profess his feelings for her. The two ended the season with a kiss and with hope, but can they make a relationship work long-distance? Isn’t this just setting up for Brett and Casey again?
There could be a surprise goodbye moment as there was after Alberto Rosande left the series, but I doubt it. Especially not when we know that Carver was planning on leaving Chicago in the first place.

Violet gets her heart broken again
I sometimes think that when networks push for characters to be written out, they don’t assess what it means for storylines at all. Yet again, Violet is likely to get her heart broken.
Now, maybe, we could get an exit that leaves the door open for Carver’s return. Maybe there is a way to show that long-distance relationships can work, but I don’t have much hope for that in a Dick Wolf series. Multiple other shows, and even Chicago Fire, have shown that they don’t work, and they either lead to breakups or the other character leaving.
So, I suspect that Violet will get her heart broken yet again. After all, there are no signs as of yet that Hanako Greensmith is leaving Chicago Fire. We’ll have to wait until the season 14 premiere to see where Violet and Carver stand.
Chicago Fire airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
