Well, it's been more than three years since we got news that this hit comedy series from the '80s and '90s was going to get an animated reboot, with very little updates coming out about it after that. Now, we finally have one. And unfortunately, it's not great at all.

Per TVLine, the animated Married... With Children reboot series is officially off the table and will not be happening. An exact reason wasn't given to the news outlet as to why it's no longer in development. However apparently the show and idea of it all "remains very important to Sony Pictures Television."

With all of the constant spin-offs and reboots around us, it's truly disappointing this one in particular didn't work out. I wanted to see more of the Bundy bunch, even if it was in animated form. News of the series first came in May 2022. At that point, main actors Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Christina Applegate, and David Faustino, were all set to return and reprise their roles as the voices of their OG characters.

It truly had all the elements to make it a success, which is why this move is so confusing. The main original cast members had signed on to return. Plus, the showrunner was set to be Alex Carter, who is known as a writer and executive producer on Family Guy. He definitely knows what he's doing and the project was in good hands.

It's amazing just how popular the comedy was, running for 11 seasons from 1987 to 1997 on Fox. Sony Pictures Television is the company that produced it. Even though it wrapped up back in the '90s, Married... With Children is definitely still a sitcom that's still watched today. If you need something new to stream, I definitely recommend this one! The series is available on Hulu and Pluto TV.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time that a spin-off of the show doesn't work. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the production company attempted to produce a sequel series revolved around Bud Bundy (Faustino). Though that one also didn't end up going anywhere. It's certainly strange.

Again, it's a beloved sitcom, it has the cast members, and the nostalgic element is sure to bring fans and viewers in. This is a true shame, and I truly do hope that if the series really is still important to Sony then they try to make this animated reboot actually happen.

All 11 seasons of Married... With Children are streaming on Peacock.
