Harlan Coben has become a household name, thanks to his bestselling mystery novels being turned into gripping thrillers on Netflix. With a reputation for twisting plots and keeping audiences at the edge of their seats, Coben’s Netflix series have been a hit. However, just when everyone thought they knew what to expect from the master of mystery, Coben is shaking things up in a big way.
No, his partnership with Netflix is not ending. In fact, he has several upcoming projects lined up with the streaming giant, like the limited series I Will Find You and Run Away. But in an unexpected move, Coben is stepping outside the streaming world for his next project. His latest show is headed to CBS, and trust us, it is not what you expect.
He's taken a break from scripted thrillers to dive into the world of true crime with Harlan Coben’s Final Twist, an unscripted hour-long series set to premiere during CBS’s 2025–26 season. In this new venture, Coben will serve as the host, guiding viewers through shocking real-life criminal cases like murders and other major crimes. The show will also include exclusive interviews and never-before-seen footage and materials, helping to uncover the truth behind each case.
Although Coben has appeared in a brief cameo in one of his Netflix adaptations, this new CBS series places him in the spotlight. The true crime investigations he'll be exploring are filled with deception, mystery, and jaw-dropping revelations. It'll be interesting to see how he steps into the role of host and engages directly with the audience, as it is a thrilling departure from his usual writing and producing roles.
Coben's Final Twist Productions, All Rise Films, Triage Entertainment, and See It Now Studios are the production companies responsible for making Final Twist. Jeff Zimbalist is signed on as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Coben, Ben Coben, Stu Schreiberg, Susan Zirinsky, Terence Wrong, and Jess Philipps.
Here's what Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, had to say about the new series via Deadline:
"Harlan Coben is a globally renowned superstar in the literary world. He has sold over 90 million books. This is the first time he’s entered the unscripted world with a true-crime series. He’s going to host it and be on camera, and he’s going to bring his unique and special brand of crime and mystery to our viewers and we think they’re going to love this.”
In addition to I Will Find You and Run Away, Coben and Netflix are collaborating to adapt his Myron Bolitar book series, and his novels Win and Six Years, into shows or movies. Final Twist is Coben's only CBS project at the moment, marking his first foray into true-crime unscripted television.
