Happy's Place is the latest sitcom starring Reba McEntire, but the joy of this show goes beyond that as it also reunites McEntire with her Reba co-star Melissa Peterman. Not only that, but Happy's Place has featured other cameos from the beloved former sitcom, including Steve Howey (Van on Reba) and Christopher Rich (Brock). Reba executive producer Christopher Abbott is also one of the co-creators of Happy's Place, so it's basically a big reunion.
Now that a second has officially been confirmed, fans are curious as to whether or not we'll see other Reba stars make appearances on Happy's Place, like maybe JoAnna Garcia or Scarlett Pomers, who once played McEntire's on-screen daughters Cheyenne and Kyra.
Good news for anyone hoping for more fun guest stars, Peterman recently told Gold Derby that she anticipates more "blast from the pasts" from the Reba cast. Obviously she can't give away who they're hoping to get, but Garcia is probably the most in-demand given her significant role in the original series.
The nice thing about Happy's Place is that while it has had some casting overlap, we're getting to see these actors interact in much different ways. For starters, Peterman's character, Gabby, is on friendlier terms with McEntire's Bobbie. Howey also gets to play something different than his dopey role as Van, this time coming on the show as a friend of Gabby's. And Rich plays a tattoo artist this time around.
Not everyone knows that McEntire and Peterman have been working together for a long time and genuinely enjoy each other's company. Outside of the sitcom world, the two actresses also co-host a podcast together called Living & Learning.
Happy's Place feels similar to Reba in many ways. It's a multi-camera series filmed in front of a live studio audience and there's something very warm and nostalgic about the vibes. Peterman says she really hopes that the show gets to continue for many years to come and morph into something that people will cozy up to rewatch again and again. We've all got our feel-good sitcoms and I think this could easily become one.
Apart from just anticipating additional Reba stars to make appearances, Peterman also says she would love to have the legendary Jean Smart play her mother. Smart is currently killing it on the Emmy-winning series Hacks, but having her act opposite of Peterman would be iconic.
Guest stars are exciting, but Happy's Place boasts a great main cast. Belissa Escobedo stars alongside McEntire and Peterman as Bobbie's paternal half-sister. The two sisters must figure out how to manage a Tennessee bar together when it is discovered that they both inherited half-ownership.
