Who's ready for the best medical drama series on television to return? Grey's Anatomy is scheduled to premiere its twenty-second season on ABC this October, and fans are eagerly anticipating what’s in store.

If you recall from the jaw-dropping season 21 finale, chaos erupts at Grey Sloan Memorial when a desperate mother takes multiple doctors hostage, demanding they perform surgery on her sick daughter or she'll release the contents of a highly flammable acetylene tank. Fortunately, Meredith swoops in and saves the day by helping diffuse the situation. But the tank ends up toppling over, and at the very end of the finale, the OR floor goes up in flames.

Viewers were then left wondering who managed to survive the devastating explosion and how the hospital and its staff would recover from such a catastrophic event. The doctors most at risk are Link, Miranda, Jules, and Monica since they were all on the OR floor when the flames erupted.

However, Grey's Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis recently revealed in an interview with TVLine that any character who was in the hospital at the time of the blast is in danger. That isn't good, and it has only made us even more eager to want to watch the new episodes to see which beloved doctors and staff members survive the explosion. But that's not all. Marinis also teased within the same interview something that fans will definitely be excited to hear.

Grey's Anatomy season 22 will welcome back several familiar faces

No, we're not joking around! According to TVLine, Marinis wouldn't reveal exactly which characters from previous seasons will return in Grey's Anatomy season 22. However, she did confirm that more than one past character will make a comeback. Of course, this has only fueled speculation on who those characters might be.

One character that many fans would love to see the return of is Mika (Midori Francis). Mika was a surgical intern at Grey Sloan Memorial. After losing her younger sister to her injuries following a tragic car accident, Mika struggled to balance her grief while working at the same hospital where her sister passed away. This led to an emotional breakdown at work, and Mika then made the decision to leave Grey Sloan for good to return home and focus on her healing journey. She also left behind Jules and their romantic relationship, which hurt Jules deeply.

Francis previously stated in an interview with Deadline that she'd be "so delighted" to return in her role as Mika later on in the medical drama, so we can only hope that season 22 gives fans the chance to see Mika back at Grey Sloan Memorial. It would also be great if we could see the return of OG Grey's Anatomy characters like Izzie, Arizona, Cristina, and Callie. The chances of this happening are likely slim, but Grey’s Anatomy has surprised fans before with unexpected comebacks, so anything is possible.

Grey's Anatomy season 22 premieres on ABC on Oct. 9.
