On Oct. 5, 2025, Gilmore Girls celebrated its milestone 25th anniversary. The beloved comedy-drama series debuted on The WB back in 2000, and since then, its popularity has endured thanks to streaming on Netflix and new generations discovering (and loving) the show. Naturally, fans want to return to Stars Hollow once again, and the stars have expressed their desire, too.

It's been almost 10 years since Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life premiered on Netflix. The four-episode revival miniseries used four 90-minute episodes to catch up with Lorelai, Rory, Emily, and most of our favorite characters during each season of a single year. While the revival earned mixed reviews, the finale cliffhanger earned the most mixed reviews and left fans wanting even more.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary, the cast and crew have been speaking out about their time on the show and what the future could hold for their characters. Lauren Graham has been outspoken on her pitch to come back for a Christmas movie, but another Gilmore Girls star has revealed what would need to happen in order to get the gang back together for another iteration of the series.

Gilmore Girls cast open to returning for revival movie if stars and creator return

Over the years since the 2016 release of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life on Netflix, the cast have been asked whether they would return for another season or another sort of continuation. Graham's answer has always been that she's up for reprising Lorelai Gilmore no matter what, but the stars would have to align for the story to be right and the availability of the cast to coincide.

Kelly Bishop, who plays Emily Gilmore in both the original series and its revival, shared with The Hollywood Reporter that she sees one important requirement that's necessary to put into place before moving forward with any new series or movie (though the cast have all seemed to agree a movie is the way to go). Here's what the star said about returning for more:

"I would be open to it, but it would require the main players there again: Lauren, Alexis [Bledel], and certainly Amy [Sherman-Palladino]. I’m also wondering if it would be better as a movie, rather than trying to do four more episodes or something like that," Bishop said.

Obviously, fans would agree that in order for new Gilmore Girls content to be worth making and our time, all of the major players need to be on board. We need Graham, Bledel, and Bishop back to star (along with Scott Patterson and various other supporting players), and we certainly wouldn't want anyone other than creator Amy Sherman-Palladino at the helm. Bishop is right!

Even though the conversation surrounding the series seems just as big as the pre-revival days in the 2010s, with the 25th anniversary and an unofficial documentary on the way, there's no active development that's been announced on a new Gilmore Girls project. We can keep our fingers crossed that the chatter amounts to Graham's holiday movie idea sooner rather than later.
