Fox is bringing the cast of Glee back together this fall, but it’s not quite the kind of musical reunion fans have been dreaming about for years. Instead of a song-filled special or revival series, the stars will be reuniting in a very different way — one that might leave Gleeks both excited and a little disappointed.
Timed to the 10th anniversary of Fox’s Emmy-winning series, the network is about to stage a Glee reunion via the season premiere of Celebrity Weakest Link.
As Celebrity Weakest Link prepares to make the move from NBC to its new home on Fox, host Jane Lynch will be reuniting with eight former co-stars for a can’t-miss Glee edition of the beloved game show. The Glee takeover will see Max Adler (Dave Karofsky), Dot-Marie Jones (Sheldon Beiste), Heather Morris (Brittany S. Pierce), Alex Newell (Wade "Unique" Adams), Chord Overstreet (Sam Evans), Amber Riley (Mercedes Jones), Becca Tobin (Kitty Wilde), and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang) coming together to compete in the season opener.
Although it’s not exactly the kind of reunion fans might be holding out for, it’s a fitting way to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the show’s final season!
Any time the Glee cast comes together again is always cause for celebration, and it’s going to be fun to see who surprises us the most with their trivia skills.
It’s also going to be fun getting to see how the former Glee costars get along between rounds of competition, as Lynch channels her inner Sue Sylvester and pokes fun at each round’s biggest missteps. It will also be interesting to see how the Glee cast will pick and choose who to vote out each round, which is sure to create some memorable moments. Who knows, maybe we’ll even get a surprise musical moment in the episode!
10 years later, Glee fans continue to hold out hope for a revival or reboot for the beloved show. Many members of the cast have hinted at a desire to revisit the Emmy-winning show, including Lynch, who told People she thinks it “would be really fun to play Sue Sylvester 10 years later.”
There was hope that a Glee revival could happen a few years back after Ryan Murphy hinted that it was time to “re-examine it as a brand.” During an appearance on the And That’s What You REALLY Missed podcast (via TV Insider), Murphy pondered whether that could mean doing a reboot in some way or possibly another iteration, such as a Broadway musical. Ultimately, nothing has been announced, but at least we can look forward to the Glee cast reuniting this fall on Celebrity Weakest Link.
Don’t miss Fox’s Glee reunion on the Celebrity Weakest Link season premiere on Monday, Sept. 15 at 9/8c!
