FOX might be late to the renewal game, but the network has been quite generous in handing out renewals – a welcome change as its competitors continue to clear house with waves of cancellations from CBS and NBC.
On the heels of renewing its two live-action comedies Animal Control and Going Dutch, FOX has handed out renewals to five additional shows, including a pair of reality hits and a trio of adult animated originals! As first reported by Deadline, FOX has renewed Extracted, The Floor, Grimsburg, Krapoplis, and Universal Basic Guys.
The Floor has secured a two-season renewal with FOX ordering two additional seasons of its Rob Lowe-hosted game show, renewing the show through season 5. Given that The Masked Singer is about to be pushed to the spring and will sit out the fall for the first time in its run, we imagine The Floor might secure a primetime spot this fall, and it could be returning alongside Extracted’s second season.
On the comedy front, Grimsburg was renewed for a third season, and its renewal was by far the most pleasant surprise as the show ranks towards the bottom of the ratings chart on FOX. Also renewed for season 3 is Universal Basic Guys, though its renewal isn’t as surprising given FOX has been betting big on the show, having renewed it for a second season before it had even premiered.
Then there is Krapopolis which has already been renewed for two additional seasons and has now landed a fifth season renewal from FOX. The network has been a big fan of the show from the start and continues to bet big on the series with its season 5 renewal now ensuring it’ll air through at least the 2027-28 TV season.
With these five shows landing renewals, this leaves just four scripted shows awaiting their fates, and we’re certainly starting to get worried about these fan-favorites.
First, there is The Great North, which is the only animated series not to be renewed. Truthfully, this is the bubble show we’re most worried about, as we have to imagine if a renewal was coming, it would have been announced with the rest of FOX’s adult animated comedies. The show is FOX’s lowest-rated show, so we imagine The Great North could be facing cancellation.
Then there are FOX’s live-action dramas. Accused, Alert, and The Cleaning Lady are all waiting to learn their fate, and honestly, they all could go either way. There are reasons why it would make sense for FOX to renew any of the three, and there are also reasons why FOX could choose to cancel them. These shows truly are on the bubble and could go either way, which means there is still hope for renewals, but we could also see a few of these shows get canceled.
With FOX’s Upfront presentation coming in just a few days, we should learn the fate of these four shows soon and we’re hoping for more good news than bad. Though at this point, there’s no telling what FOX might choose to do with its four remaining scripted shows awaiting their fates.
