Fox has made a decision about two of its four bubble shows, and sadly, it’s not good news for fans of Alert: Missing Persons Unit and The Cleaning Lady. Both shows have been canceled by Fox and will not return for the 2025-26 TV season.
While many networks chose to make decisions about their shows before May, Fox decided to wait until both shows had the chance to end their current seasons to make a decision. This gave fans some hope, but ultimately, both shows were still canceled once their seasons ended. What is interesting is that the decision comes right on the heels of the finales, with Alert ending its third season on May 27 and The Cleaning Lady ending its fourth season just days ago on June 3.
Unfortunately, both shows ended on cliffhangers, meaning fans will not be getting a proper resolution to the ongoing storylines.
In the Alert season 3 finale, Jason and Wayne made a stride towards repairing their relationship. After helping to find missing high school kids, Jason invited Wayne to the prom at the high school of the kids’ they saved. Wayne agreed, and we got to see the pair enjoying a sweet dance, but it was interrupted when Wayne received a text and excused herself. Once away from Jason, Wayne pulled up the message, which read, “Report?” to which she replied back “I’m in at MPU. They don’t suspect a thing.”
The moment left fans wondering what Wayne was up to and who the mystery texter was. This is a plotline that surely would have been a key part of the show’s fourth season in exploring the mystery behind whether Wayne could be trusted or not.
Sadly, The Cleaning Lady also ended on a cliffhanger. The now series finale found Thony declaring her plan to take over the Sin Cara cartel after she managed to convince Jorge that her goal was to become a cartel associate and told Joel she would go back to the cartel to be an informant for him. The plan for season 5 seemed to be following Thony as she worked to take over the cartel, but it seems we won’t get to see it play out due to the show’s sudden cancellation.
As disappointing as the cancellations of both shows are, they aren’t too surprising, as both shows were on the bubble and ranked among Fox’s least-watched shows of the season. There was apparently hope for Alert as the network was said to be a big fan of Scott Caan; however, the show’s ratings were a hurdle too big to overcome.
