Not all FBI finales have ended their seasons on the biggest of cliffhangers, but the show decided to end season 7 with quite a bang

In the season 7 finale, the FBI came under attack from within when it came to the attention of our core group of characters that the agency had been infiltrated by the anti-government group, Forefront. The episode saw the likes of Maggie, OA, Scola, Dani, Kelly, Elise, Ian, Jubal, and Isobel working off the books in order to stop the group from gaining complete control of the FBI.

It was an episode full of highs and lows as the agents fought to save the day off the books, with their backs against the wall. Early in the episode, we learned that as part of Forefront’s plan, Forefront used explosives hidden in government-issued phones. One of these explosives went off when Isobel was in the room, killing ADIC Reynolds and seemingly Isobel… but we soon learned that she had survived the bombing and faked her death in order to work in the shadows.

Isobel was able to use this leverage to make the corrupt deputy assistant director to make it seem as though she was on their side. This allowed her to set a trap, which allowed the rest of the team to bring down not only the corrupt deputy assistant director but also the agents working under him as part of Forefront. It seemed like the good guys got the win and that was that, but then came the unexpected curveball. While addressing the agents, Isobel fainted, and when Jubal checked for a pulse, he couldn’t find one.

Following the episode, star Alana De La Garza (Isobel) declined to reveal to TV Insider the fate of her character, simply teasing that fans will “have to tune in to see.” However, her costar Jeremy Sisto (Jubal) made it clear that he’s in agreement with the fans that the loss of Isobel would be a huge blow to the show.

“It would be a huge blow to the office and to Jubal and to obviously the show as well. We are all hoping that that is not the case. … I think one of the reasons our show works is because all the characters fill a necessary role within this family, and so it would be a real shame to break something that’s working so well.”

We couldn’t agree more! FBI has an amazing ensemble, and each member of the team plays such a pivotal role in making the series into the show we know and love. The loss of Isobel would be major—not only in losing an incredible character and actress, but also in losing a character who fills a key role in the show as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge who oversees the rest of the team.

While we’ve seen a change to the ASA in the show before, when Sela Ward departed the show after its first season, De La Garza has become an integral part of the show’s DNA. We’ve loved seeing her character grow over the years, and the opportunity we’ve gotten to learn more about her personal life in recent seasons, plus her chemistry with the full cast is unmatched.

Our hope is that this is simply a fake-out moment and that Isobel will pull through, but it’s going to be a long summer to see what the FBI writers have planned for the character!
