Just days after FBI: International aired its unplanned series finale, star Jesse Lee Soffer has finally broken his silence about the show’s unexpected cancellation.
Taking to Instagram, Soffer acknowledged the end of CBS’s hit drama in his first official statement acknowledging the abrupt end to the show. While he’s only just joined the show in its final season, Soffer expressed his deep appreciation for the show in a post accompanied by a series of photos from his time on the show.
“What a year. What a journey. 6000 miles away. Over 25,000 miles traveled. New friends. Old friends. Loss. Love. Immense focus. Deep appreciation for the lessons that come with putting all of your energy towards a project. So much growth. I’m very grateful. Thank you for going on the journey with me.”
Soffer followed up his farewell message with a second Instagram post sharing a handful of additional images from filming the show across Europe.
“I could post a thousand pics from this season. It wouldn’t do it justice,” Soffer wrote as he shared some stunning shots from his time on the show, including some fun photos with his FBI: International costars.
Truthfully, we can’t quite believe that FBI: International has come to an end. After undergoing some major cast changes in its short run, FBI: International really hit its stride in season 4 with Soffer serving as a standout addition to the show’s cast. It was amazing getting to see Soffer back in primetime, this time leading a show – something he mentioned wanting to do after stepping back from Chicago PD.
What makes it so hard to accept the show’s cancellation is that FBI: International remained a strong performer and was pulling in more viewers than a handful of renewed series, including Elsbeth, Fire Country, The Neighborhood, NCIS: Sydney, and NCIS: Origins. Because the cancellation came late in the season, the show also failed to get the chance to bring things to a proper ending. As a result, there were several unresolved storylines that we’re now never going to get to see play out, which is a shame, to say the least.
Our only hope is to see some of the FBI: International characters pop up from time to time on the flagship series. This is an approach ABC’s The Rookie has taken in having characters from The Rookie: Feds appear in the flagship series following its cancellation. It’d be great to see Soffer drop in for a guest spot to give us an update on the Fly Team, and we’d jump at the chance to see him reprising his role as Special Agent Wes Mitchell.
We're also hoping that Soffer won't stay on the sidelines for too long as it was so great getting to see him back in primetime after he left Chicago PD. Soffer is such an amazing actor, and we're hoping studios will take note and he'll land a new role soon as we'd love to see Soffer back on the small screen, hopefully in a role that will get to last for more than one season!
