Could Dancing with the Stars be about to finally cast its first star from Peacock’s Emmy-winning hit The Traitors? Nothing is confirmed just yet, but it’s starting to look like season 3 winner Dylan Efron could very well be waltzing into the ballroom this fall as part of the season 34 cast.
Following his breakout run on The Traitors, fans have been eagerly waiting to find out what the future holds for Efron. Among the projects that his name has become attached to is ABC’s long-running reality competition series Dancing with the Stars. Efron’s name has been getting tossed around a lot in online communities that cover the franchise, with many Dancing with the Stars sources hinting that Efron is on the radar of the producers and could likely be joining the upcoming season.
Interestingly, as rumors about Efron’s involvement in the forthcoming season continue to swirl, current Dancing with the Stars pro Britt Stewart posted a new video on TikTok that has fans convinced it is a subtle clue that Efron has joined the cast. In the video posted on May 23, Stewart shared a brief video dancing to a remix of “Get Your Head in the Game” from High School Musical. Days later, she posted another video asking fans, “Who’s your Season 34 dream cast? GO!!!” which only managed to further fan the flames of the rumor.
“Why do I feel like this is foreshadowing Dylan Efron as her partner this season?” wrote one fan who asked the question on the minds of every fan.
Now, others were quick to speculate about the video possibly teasing the casting of High School Musical actor Bart Johnson, who played Coach Bolton in the films. Johnson even commented on the TikTok video writing, “This seems like a great video to drop to introduce your next season partner.” However, his response could be a giveaway that Stewart wasn’t referring to him.
Typically, stars who are in talks or who have already signed up for a season of Dancing with the Stars will not speak directly about their involvement in the show in any way until ABC has announced the cast. So if Johnson were the partner Stewart was potentially hinting at, we can’t see a world in which he would have responded as doing so could create headaches for the Dancing with the Stars team, who tend to do everything possible to hide the identities of the cast until the official announcements.
This brings us to Efron’s recent interview with Entertainment Tonight in which Efron slipped in a fun High School Musical reference when hinting that he would be open to competing this season.
“I don’t dance, so it would be tough, but I love challenging myself. I’d be open to it,” Efron told ET.
I don’t dance happens to be the title of a song from High School Musical 2 performed by Corbin Bleu, who just so happened to compete on season 17 of Dancing with the Stars. Was this Efron’s way of subtly hinting that he’s indeed set to compete in season 34?
With so much speculation and the way that Efron’s name keeps coming up in casting circles, we’re honestly going to be shocked if he’s not a part of the Dancing with the Stars season 34 cast. Honestly, he would be a major get for the show following his breakout role on The Traitors, and fans would surely follow him over to the ballroom if it meant getting to have him back on their screens once again!
It’d be a great platform for Efron to reach even more viewers as well, which could help to further establish his personal brand beyond just being known as Zac Efron’s brother and give more fans the chance to fall in love with him!
