There are spoilers ahead from the second episode of Doc season 2. We also get into what the third episode could be about based on a new promo.
Doc season 2 returned with a brand-new episode on Sept. 30, and it did not disappoint! In the second episode titled "Delusions of Grandeur," Amy treats a patient who appears to be pregnant and is experiencing abdominal pain. Amid the medical drama, she begins experiencing flashes of an old memory. That old memory involves Dr. Joan Ridley, an old mentor and friend of Amy's who makes her debut in this episode.
We quickly learn that Joan has been working at Westside and was just away for a while. Michael offers her the Chief of Internal Medicine position after Richard was fired for misconduct, and Joan accepts the offer. While she and Amy seem to get along, it’s clear that something feels off. Joan may not be as trustworthy as she seems. This is proven later in the episode when Amy recovers the full memory. Before her accident, Amy had dinner with Joan. Joan was supposed to be the mediator between Amy and Michael since they were having relationship troubles, but instead, Joan suggested to Amy that she leave Michael.
We discovered that Amy was the reason for her and Michael's split earlier in the series, but we never knew the full details. Based on this memory, it's clear that Joan played a pivotal role in influencing Amy’s decisions. But the question is, why would Joan tell Amy to leave her husband? Sure, she's closer with Amy, but it didn't seem like she had bad blood with Michael. We'll likely find out the reason as the season goes on. Now, let's get into the next episode!
What could Doc season 2 episode 3 be about?
As expected, a new promo for the upcoming third episode was released. The episode is titled "New Blood," and the promo shows Joan and Amy clashing over professional conflicts. Although it's only been a day, Joan seems to have fully stepped into her new role as Chief of Internal Medicine.
In the promo, she's shown walking around the hospital, listening in on her staff and closely monitoring their interactions. She even announces that in a couple of months, there will be an official evaluation of the entire department. Everyone in the room is shocked and doesn't really know how to react after Joan states that some of them won't survive the evaluation. In other words, their jobs are at risk.
There's also a short clip of Amy telling Joan not to get too comfortable as the new chief because eventually the position will be hers again. While it's unclear if she meant that in a serious, playful, or warning tone, it hints that a power struggle could be potentially brewing between her and Joan.
Things get even more rocky later in the promo when Amy states in a voiceover that she injected a patient with stem cells. That same patient is then shown in the promo coding. In a separate clip, Joan confronts Amy in her office about the situation. She tells Amy, "Do you deny giving that woman a shot?" Amy just stares at her in shock. Based on this promo, it looks like Amy might have gone against Joan's orders and hospital protocol. This can't be good for Amy’s career or her relationship with Joan. Then again, Amy might not be too fond of Joan after that memory she recovered.
This promo has only gotten us more hype about the upcoming episode! You can tune in and watch Doc season 2 episode 3 when it airs on Fox on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2025, at 9/8c.
