Since NBC's One Chicago franchise has been a huge success for more than a decade, there is no doubt that there are lots of fans who love Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med. Keeping in mind the fact that Chicago P.D. has such dedicated viewers, it is a great thing that the police procedural's boss gave a tantalizing tease of the plans for season 13. However, the sad truth is that there has recently been some bad news for the show's fans.
Since the One Chicago franchise premiered, all of its shows have gone through a lot of cast upheaval. For example, after Chicago Med season 11's premiere episode aired, some viewers were left wondering what happened to Maggie Lockwood due to the character's absence. Unfortunately for Chicago P.D. fans, season 13 of that series has also arrived with one of the show's main characters gone.
Chicago P.D.'s Toya Turner left the series before season 13
When the 12th season of Chicago P.D. premiered, the show introduced a new main character who was portrayed by Toya Turner named Kiana Cook. Throughout the show's 12th season, it seemed like Cook was poised to be a major part of the show's storylines going forward. However, Toya announced she was leaving Chicago P.D.'s cast before season 13 began filming. On June 26, 2025, Toya revealed her departure in the caption of an Instagram post.

As that post's caption continued, Toya expressed gratitude for the Chicago P.D. experience she enjoyed while filming the show's 12th season. Toya did that by thanking Chicago P.D.'s cast, crew, fans, and any observers who believed in her as an actor.
"To the cast and crew: thank you for the warmth, the laughter, and the generosity you brought every day. It was an honor to share the screen and the set with such talent. To the ChiHards: thank you for welcoming me, rooting for me, and showing Kiana love. And to everyone who believes in me: your support means the world. I’m excited for the opportunities ahead. When Chicago P.D. season 13, episode 1, "Consequences" aired, fans of the show learned the storyline explanation for Officer Cook's exit. After Sergeant Hank Voight's Intelligence Unit went through upheaval, Toya's character took a permanent job working for the NYPD's 17th district.
While it seems unlikely that Kiana Cook will return to Chicago P.D. anytime soon, it is notable that the character's storyline exit leaves the door open to a future comeback.
