There’s nothing quite like the rush of hearing a new show has been renewed. It’s the kind of news that makes fans want to scream, fist-pump, and immediately start theorizing about what comes next.

For a new series, a renewal isn’t just a pat on the back. It’s proof that the story, the characters, and all the late-night obsessing actually matter. It’s a victory over cancellation and a rare win in a brutal TV landscape where so many shows die before they’ve had a chance to breathe.

Fans of two new CBS shows have a reason to celebrate, as the network has just announced the renewals of both.

Boston Blue season 2 is officially happening at CBS

It's really true! Boston Blue is officially returning for a second season at CBS, and fans everywhere can finally breathe a sigh of relief. This show hit the ground running, proving it wasn’t just a spinoff riding the coattails of Blue Bloods. It quickly proved that it could stand on its own, and the numbers don't lie.

According to Deadline, the police procedural has been dominating Friday night ratings and has also seen strong streaming success. With standout numbers and the enthusiastic fan response, CBS had no choice but to greenlight a second season.

This is incredible news because now fans don't have to worry about Boston Blue being cut short or leaving storylines unresolved. They can continue watching the first season that's currently airing in peace, knowing that the story will carry on and their favorite characters won’t disappear anytime soon.

Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis created Boston Blue. It stars Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan, a former NYPD detective who joins the Boston Police Department and teams up with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green) to solve cases all throughout the city. Besides Wahlberg and Martin-Green, the cast includes Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen.

The first season has included cameos from Blue Bloods stars Bridget Moynahan and Marisa Ramirez. Now that a second installment has been confirmed, we're hoping to see even more crossover appearances.

Sheriff Country is returning for season 2 on CBS

The other new CBS show that has just been renewed is Sheriff Country. Like Boston Blue, this police procedural has performed really well in ratings and streaming. This made it a no-brainer for the network to go ahead and order a second season.

Joan Rater, Tony Phelan, and Max Thieriot created Sheriff Country. It's a spinoff of CBS’s firefighter drama Fire Country, following Sheriff Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) as she tackles crimes in the small town of Edgewater, California, all while managing complicated family ties and personal relationships.

Joining Baccarin in the cast for season 1 are Christopher Gorham, Michele Weaver, Matt Lauria, W. Earl Brown, Amanda Arcuri, and so many others. The first season has also seen crossover appearances from Fire Country stars like Max Thieriot, Kevin Alejandro, and Diane Farr.

Both Boston Blue and Sheriff Country have been renewed for the 2026-2027 season.
