Boston Blue finally premiered on CBS on Oct. 17, and we'd say the new police procedural is off to a great start. The cast meshes well and has great chemistry, the plot is engaging, and we've already seen cameos from two beloved Blue Bloods stars. What more could you ask for?
Apparently, more cameos from fan-favorite Blue Bloods characters are on the wish list. And fans aren't the only people excited about the idea. In fact, one of Boston Blue's main stars has one particular Blue Bloods character he’s especially eager to see join the spinoff.
This character was the heart and soul of the original series, and he's been the main character that's brought up by fans when mentioning who they'd want to see return in Boston Blue. You probably know who were talking about by now. It's none other than Frank Reagan, who was played by Tom Selleck in Blue Bloods.
Boston Blue star Ernie Hudson wants Frank Reagan to appear in spinoff series

It's true! Ernie Hudson, who is known for portraying Reverend Peters on Boston Blue, spoke with Us Weekly in a new interview and revealed that he would love to see Selleck’s iconic Blue Bloods character make an appearance on the spinoff.
He mentioned that working with Selleck would be amazing, particularly since they’ve never collaborated before. He also shared that he’s been a longtime admirer of Selleck’s acting and respects his career.
“That would be great. I’d love to work with Tom. I never have. Over the years, I’ve certainly admired his work. I admire his work and he’s still ready to do whatever.”
Honestly, it would mean so much for Selleck to reprise his role as Frank Reagan in Boston Blue. His return would bring a sense of continuity and familiarity to the spinoff, offering longtime fans the chance to reconnect with a character they’ve admired for years. It would also give new viewers more background on Danny, providing insight into his upbringing, values, and the family dynamics that shaped him into the officer he is today.
Spoilers are ahead from the Boston Blue premiere.
And who wouldn't want to see Danny and his dad reunite on screen? Although Frank didn't make a physical appearance in the Boston Blue premiere, there was a scene that showed Danny talking to him on the phone to update him on Sean's condition. That was great and all, but all it did was leave viewers wanting the full face-to-face interaction. We're keeping our fingers crossed that this happens sometime in the first season!
The Boston Blue premiere featured cameos from two other Blue Bloods characters. Bridget Moynahan reprised her role as ADA Erin Reagan, and Marisa Ramirez returned as Detective Maria Baez. While we already knew about Moynahan's cameo, Ramirez returning as Maria was a complete surprise.
In the premiere, Erin left behind New York to take a temporary trip to Boston to be there for Danny and her nephew Sean who was in the hospital. However, we only saw Maria for a short time in the premiere. Before Danny left to go to Boston, there's a scene between him and Maria where they're in his apartment. It looked like they were about to be intimate with each other before Danny receives a phone call that Sean is in the hospital.
This scene really just let fans know that Danny and Maria are together. The Blue Bloods series finale left things between them up in the air, so this brief moment in Boston Blue provided a much-needed confirmation that their relationship has continued. Hopefully, this isn't the last time we see Moynahan and Ramirez in Boston Blue.
Boston Blue season 1 airs a new episode on CBS every Friday night.
