We're already in the thick of the fall television season and the impending midseason breaks are getting closer and closer for all of our favorite shows. While that means that we'll have a few weeks away from some of the best titles the small screen has to offer, that also means that the new year will promise a bunch of exciting new shows, like FOX's upcoming new medical comedy-drama.
The Good Wife star Josh Charles set his return to television with the leading role in FOX's new series Best Medicine, which had been confirmed for a debut at midseason during the 2025-2026 television season. Even though January has often been a popular month for broadcast network's to launch new shows, later on in the spring has also become a busy time of the year for new launches.
However, FOX released a sneak preview teaser trailer of Charles in Best Medicine and revealed that the series will premiere in January 2026! The network didn't announce a specific premiere date, which means we don't know yet which night the series will air. It's still wonderful to know that Best Medicine will premiere sooner than we expected and kick off the year on the right note.
Best Medicine confirmed for January 2026 premieres on FOX
Although FOX didn't reveal the premiere date or timeslot just yet, by a process of elimination, we can deduce what night Best Medicine could air. Tuesday nights at 8/7c will be vacant following the Murder in a Small Town season 2 finale on Dec. 2, which means the new series could be paired with Doc season 2 on Tuesdays. But the series could also take the place of one of FOX's many game shows.
Just saying, a two-hour block of medical shows would be an excellent night of television on FOX, especially since Best Medicine offers up a lighter tone than Doc. The series adapts the British series Doc Martin and balances the drama of typical medical shows with the humor of light-hearted sitcoms. But don't be fooled: The series will be an hour long, not a half hour.
Charles stars in the series as Dr. Martin Best, who relocates from city life in Boston to take over a small medical practice in a small coastal town. He grew up going on vacation in this town, but he soon discovers its charms are a little more close-knit than he's comfortable with. As shown in the teaser, Annie Potts' character wraps him up in a big hug that he clearly does not want. She'll wear him down!
The Best Medicine cast also includes Abigail Spencer as a teacher who could be a potential love interest for the no-nonsense doctor. Calling it now! Josh Segarra also stars the small town's happy-go-lucky sheriff, and Cree rounds out the main cast as Dr. Best's assistant. No doubt, all of these people who are now in Dr. Best's life will warm him up to the camaraderie of small-town living.
Best Medicine premieres in January 2026 on FOX.
