We’re back in Costa Rica for another week with the amazing group of Bachelor in Paradise!
Good news: The intro is back! “Almost Paradise”… The intro has been jazzed up a bit into some sort of remix, but it’s the same familiar song.
I continue to say, though, the production value this season is just too high for Paradise! It’s so shiny and made-up, it just doesn’t fit. Paradise used to feel so real compared to Bachelor/Bachelorette. No longer!
Episode 2 got off to a great start. The shoe is on the other foot this week as Dale says, the men now have the roses “in the palm of [their] hands.”
Let’s get to the best and worst moments of Bachelor in Paradise episode 2!
Worst moment: Alli Joe and Parisa entrance:
Near the start of the episode, we see two new contestants approach the beach on their jet skis: Alli Jo and Parisa, from Grant’s season.
I like both these women just fine, but this entrance was not the best.
Not blaming them, but this was just so contrived. I did laugh when they removed their life jackets in unison, but the rest of the entrance was just so chopped up and edited, we didn’t even really get to see everyone’s reactions!
We are then treated to a long montage of Alli Jo working out instead of just observing their arrival on the beach in real time! Also, the girls didn’t even walk out to greet them. They just sulked at the bar while the men were nice and cordial! So uncomfortable.
I will say, I did like when Dale shouted “New blood!” Dale was a shining star this episode.
Best moment: Chemistry Test
Hannah and Wells gather the group and split them up into men and women. It was then revealed that they will play a game (virtually Tinder) where they swipe through all the contestants of the opposite sex and pick who they want to kiss! They can then meet up in the kissing booth.
I actually thought this was a great way of cutting to the chase and clearing up the confusion! Everyone has been so polite so far, afraid of hurting feelings or stepping on toes. This clears everything right up!
As Hannah Brown put it, “this is your time to be your own Bachelorette of Paradise!”
It’s true. You never know who you will make a connection with once a kiss happens, and this is an easy way to make that happen!
Best quote from Wells: “Are they going to kiss and tell? Probably, cause they’re idiots. But they don’t have to!”
It also serves up some amazingly awkward moments as the contestants stand in the tent waiting to kiss. The funniest part was that a guy would just stay in the tent as woman after woman approached him! Jonathan was in there with four women in a row!
Week 2 of Bachelor in Paradise is definitely moving in the right direction, so let's hope that continues with Week 3!
