If you tuned in to America's Got Talent season 20 last night, then you know all of us viewers were in for a major surprise. Really everyone was, except judge Simon Cowell. But we'll get to that in a moment. AGT pulled a major shocker on us fans with a controversial reality star coming on to audition. And, no this was not a prank.
Anyone remember #Scandoval from a couple of years ago? This is when it was revealed that Vanderpump Rules cast member Tom Sandoval had cheated on his girlfriend and co-star Ariana Madix of 10 years with their friend and fellow co-star on the show, Raquel (Rachel) Leviss. Yeah, talk about a very messy situation.
Well, Sandoval has a band named Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras, and they decided to come try their luck on America's Got Talent. This was a huge surprise for everyone since he's a controversial person. Plus, the competition series has never had a celebrity officially come and audition before. Check them out in the video below:
As you can see, the judges liked the sound of the band covering "Take On Me" by A-ha, and they got a yes from all four judges - Howie Mandel, Mel B, Sofia Vergara, and Cowell. The most critique-heavy judge of course didn't click the buzzer without some comments first. Plus, he knew Sandoval was going to audition since he's friends with Vanderpump Rules' Lisa Vanderpump.
In the video, Sandoval goes on to share that he "made some really bad choices" and wanted the judges and viewers to see him as "a musician versus just somebody on a reality show." I mean, sure Tom. But that was a really big deal what you did.
Should we hold it against him forever? That's for you to decide individually. Though when you're on a reality show, you choose to make your life public. So... you really can't blame viewers for still thinking about it.
I feel like AGT is kind of using this for the views. Even two years later, the Bravo reality star and musician is known and remembered for #Scandoval. I guess we'll have to see how far he and the band will go. Though in my opinion they might have a good sound, but we've already seen so many other talented contestants come through. I don't see them making it to the end.
