There's an Abbott Elementary cast member moving from the school district into a law enforcement role in new Fox medical comedy, Best Medicine. If you're a fan of recurring guest star Manny, then you'll be happy to know that actor Josh Segarra has landed a lead role in the upcoming series.

According to Deadline, the star will take on the series regular role of Sheriff Mark Mylow. He's described as a "lovable, open-hearted lawman" who perhaps may not have all the smarts. But, he does know everything about his "quaint" fishing village. You can definitely count on him if there's any question about the town he's tasked with protecting.

The show starts off with he and his long-term girlfriend Louisa (Abigail Spencer), a school teacher, freshly broken up. While Mark is still trying to get over her, a new doctor, Martin (Josh Charles), arrives in town. The two men strike a friendship, though a strain in that new relationship may come into play. Martin and Louisa start to get closer as they get to know one another, which makes room for "an awkward love triangle" to sprout. Ooh, bring on the drama!

There is no exact release date yet, however the news outlet shares that it's set to start filming in upstate New York this summer. So the cameras should start rolling pretty soon. It is expected to air during Fox's 2025-2026 midseason schedule, which typically begins in January in the broadcast network sphere.

Even though it is a comedy series, episodes will actually be an hour long, per Fox. The story focuses on the brilliant surgeon, Martin, who for whatever reason decides to leave his very successful career in Boston to bring his medical knowledge to the small town where he used to spend summers as a child. The medical comedy is based on the British version of the tale titled Doc Martin.

He's pretty blunt and rude according to the synopsis, which is not appealing to many of the residents of the fishing village, including Louisa. Unknown to all, part of that attitude is due to a new phobia he's developed and "deep-seated psychological issues." Though perhaps eventually, the village will grow on him, and the people will be able to accept his personality while helping to soften it as well. Perhaps it's exactly what he needs to get better.

ABBOTT ELEMENTARY - ÒCareer Day Part 1/Career Day Part 2Ó ItÕs a new year at Abbott Elementary, and Janine is as eager as ever. She plans a district-wide initiative Ð Career Day Ð and is anxious for it to be a success. Meanwhile, Ava has a new approach to her job, and Melissa is asked a surprising question. WEDNESDAY, FEB. 7 (9:00-10:02 p.m. EST), on ABC. (Disney/Gilles Mingasson) JOSH SEGARRA, BENJAMIN NORRIS, KIMIA BEHPOORNIA

Segarra first joined Abbott Elementary season 3 when Janine started her fellowship at the school district. His character Manny is an employee there, and really helps Janine integrate and learn. He's impressed by her quick problem-solving skills and it seemed like there was the potential of a relationship growing between them. However even though he asked her out, she turned him down because of her feelings for Gregory. Thankfully, the two teachers finally got together!

Even through all that, Manny is a kind and laid back person who's still supportive of Janine and genuinely seems like he wants to help the staff at Abbott and other schools at the district. It's because of Segarra's portrayal that he's a likable character, becoming a frequent guest star. I know he's going to be amazing leading Best Medicine on Fox as well!

Best Medicine is expected to premiere during the midseason schedule on Fox.
