Last week's episode of 911 season 9 took the procedural drama to new heights it's never reached before: Outer space! The season's opening three-episode event sent Athena and Hen to space, not unlike the SpaceX launch that received a lot of media attention earlier this year. Naturally, in true 911 form, the launch didn't go as planned ended up becoming dangerous.

While the crew aboard the shuttle was able to put out one fire (figuratively... for now) with the help of their friends and family back on Earth. However, at the episode's end, Athena and Hen's group notices a fire coming into the ship through one of the vents. Once again, their luck appears to run out, and the clocking is ticking for both the crew and the team on Earth to save them.

Beyond the stressful situation situation brewing up in the sky, the 118 are also dealing with a stressful situation brought to them by the sky down on the ground. When can fans tune into 911 season 9 episode 3 for the conclusion of the three-part space storyline, and what can we expect from the latest episode? Here's what you need to know before tuning in!

What to expect in 911 season 9 episode 3

The new episode, which is titled "The Sky Is Falling," will wrap up the storylines that have been unraveling in the first two episodes. Based on where things left off in season 9 episode 2, the major driving force of this week's episode will be putting out the fire that has broken out in the space shuttle and managing to safely bring home Athena, Hen, and the entire crew.

Check out the episode's official synopsis as shared by ABC: "Athena and Hen face increasing dangers in space as friends both near and far try to get them home safely. Meanwhile, the 118 continues to help victims of the geostorm and falling debris."

Based on the first-look photos from the episode, Karen (Tracie Thoms) and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) appear to remain involved in communicating with the team behind the launch to monitor the rescue mission. The sneak peek clip reveals the fire has been extinguished, but the crew only has one hour remaining in their suits before their situation turns dire... again.

It's unclear how worried we should actually be about Athena and Hen. I mean, last season, we wouldn't have expected that the show would kill off Bobby (Peter Krause), but that happened! Athena has survived every major disaster event 911 has put her through so far, and there's no way the show would kill her off in this early in the season or so close to Bobby's death.

Honestly, we should be worried about them the normal amount... not the "more of our favorite characters are about to be killed off" amount! Outside of the space storyline's conclusion, which includes Mark Consuelos back in his guest starring role as Tripp Hauser, the 118 will also wrap up their geostorm storyline before 911 gets back down to Earth next week.

911 airs Thursdays at 8/7c on ABC, streaming next day on Hulu.
