It’s time for Harry’s first shift with the 118, and when 911 season 9 episode 10 opens, it looks like Harry’s dream is making him the hero. However, it quickly makes clear that it’s Chimney’s dream.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911 season 9 episode 10

Of course, Chimney wants Harry as part of the 118. The entire firehouse has helped raise the boy, but that doesn’t stop Chimney from worrying about things. While it looks like the dream is Harry’s at first with how much Harry is jumping in to save people, it turns out that it’s Chimney’s dream, as he dreams of Harry getting killed — by a passing truck at a scene!

IN the real world, Harry is getting the firehouse ready for his first shift, sharing a photo of the work he’s done to both Athena and May. It’s pretty sweet, but the question is how this first shift will turn out. Of course, there are more fears of Harry getting injured!

Chimney isn’t ready to take off the reins on 911 season 9 episode 10

The rest of the 118 quickly realize just what’s going on. Well, sort of, as they realize that Chimeny won’t even let Harry get coffee. It’s even worse when there’s a call, and Chimney refuses to let Harry come with them.

The call? Well, it’s not clear at first. Instead, we head to a house where a mom is just trying to keep her boy safe by stopping him from jumping on chairs and doing anything considered dangerous. This boy, Reed, is fed up of not being able to do anything fun, even heading to his friend’s roller skating parents. It turns out that there may be something going on when it comes to health, as she says that he’s not like other kids, and I guess we’ll eventually find out.

After all, as the pot on the stove suddenly starts to whistle and shake, the whole stove explodes. Reed has to call 911 to get help. He doesn’t want to leave his mom, and he refuses to exit the house. Maddie has no choice but to help Reed get to a fire extinguisher. He shares that there’s a knob where the fire is coming out, and that’s the knob to turn off the gas. He decides to turn it off, despite it likely being hot.

It turns out that he has no ability to feel pain. So, it’s no wonder that he doesn’t get to do all the activities that he wants to do. He’d never know if he was hurt, and now his mom doesn’t appear to be the helicopter parent that she initially seemed. However, there’s a lesson for Chimney — he can’t protect Harry from everything!

Hen and Eddie face trial for a past case on 911

It doesn’t take long to find out which case Hen and Eddie have to testify about. It goes back to the call that involved the “exorcism,” which was actually a case where the victim had tetanus. The prosecution attacks Hen and Eddie on a personal level, even with an attempt to push Eddie’s buttons to get him to fire back.

Outside of the courtroom, Abigail, the young victim from the case, goes to see Hen and Eddie. It’s Eddie Abigail really wants to speak with, understanding how he learned to be less angry. It’s clear that she has a lot of anger about the situation that she was forced into. It doesn’t help that she is now out of foster care because she turned 18, and while she got a car from her grandmother, it was just so her grandmother could get rid of her.

There are a lot of benefits of being rescued, but there are also a lot of downsides, and it’s something no TV show really touches on.

Back at the firehouse, Harry wants to hear all about the details of the call the 118 were out on. Eddie has come back from the courthouse with Abigail, and the rest of the 118 quickly help support her emotionally. He also brought in Alex, the LAPD therapist, which is to help her get the resources she needs to get the help that she needs.

When it turns out that Alex has helped find her a place to stay in faith-based housing, there’s a shift in Abigail’s hopeful demeanor. Is nobody going to bring up the fact that Alex said “faith-based” and that’s when the demeanor changed?

A call for Athena with a lot of heart

When a man calls 911 about his father going missing, Athena is the one to answer the call. This man clearly has dementia, and the son keeps an eye on him via cameras. However, the signal went down and his dad’s Life Alert has been taken off. As she looks through paperwork, there’s a plane ticket for a “Sheryl Sullivan” printed on his desk, and the plug for the cameras has been removed.

So, who is this woman and where has his dad gone? Well, not sure, but it turns out that he took the lawn mower out for a drive. Does he really suffer from dementia? Well, it turns out that isn’t quite the case. He knows exactly where he is and how much gas he has in the lawnmower. What’s going on, then?

The son is worried that his father is being scammed, and that’s when there’s a knock at the door. Sure enough, Sheryl is a real woman and she did fly all the way to meet him. At the end of the day, the son just cares about his father, but maybe he needs to stop being the helicopter “parent.”

Abigail turns up at Eddie's house

Harry is certainly struggling with his first days at work not being able to head into calls, leading to Eddie, Ravi, and Buck talking about the situation. Someone needs to talk to Chimney about it, and Ravi and Eddie think that it should be Buck. However, it’s not Buck who needs to do it.

Hen is the best one to talk about what Chimney is doing right now, especially since she knows what it was like to work under Captain Gerard. He was the man to bench Hen and Chimney for a long time, and while Chimney likely knows that Hen is right, he still keeps thinking about loss. He’s scared of losing Harry, but Harry needs to get experience in the field. He needs a captain who will show and teach him how to stay alive, and if Chimney can’t do that, then another firehouse needs him.

At Eddie’s place, Abigail turns up to ask to talk, and it’s easy to see that she’s struggling. The conversation quickly turns onto Alex, who Christopher doesn’t know, but Abigail is quick to point out that she’s pretty. Things get a little awkward for Eddie, but Abigail isn’t really there to make things awkward. She’s there to see how others live, and Eddie quickly shares all the mistake he’s recently been making as a parent.

She’s also there to share the bad news: her parents were acquitted on all charges. A ministry van picked them up from the prison and they get to go back to their old lives. It hurts as a victim to see that the justice system doesn’t hold people accountable.

There is something else going on, though. When Eddie worries that it’s getting late, she immediately jumps to the conclusion that he’s asking her to stay the night. That’s not what he’s doing at all, and it’s clear that Abigail has developed a survivor bond with Eddie.

Chimney finally puts Harry out in the field on 911

It’s time for Chimney to accept that he has been in the wrong on 911 season 9 episode 10, and he shares a little about his probie year with Harry. He even admits to his mistakes as a captain, but he doesn’t get a chance to fully finish the speech as the bell rings. It’s time for Harry to suit up and get in the rig. He’s going to his first call.

That call is a vehicle accident in the middle of the road, with a garbage truck on fire. It’s been burning for so long that it will turn into a bomb. Harry is able to use his Academy training to share what could happen if they just leave it, as well. The 118 is ready to work together.

Naturally, Chimney is worried the whole call, and it disrupts his focus, but we have to remember that he has a good team. When Harry seems to just disappear, Chimney starts to panic. It doesn’t help that the cars just start driving, despite the cones up! Instead of Harry, it’s Chimney who is almost run over, with Harry getting him out of the way. I would say that people need to stop being dumb, but the guy had a potential minor stroke, so it’s not like he could have stopped driving his car. However, there are a lot of selfish people out there.

Athena and May have a gift from Bobby to Harry

When the 118 gets back from the call, Chimney checks in on where Harry is going. He finally gives him the job to “scrub the crapper,” and everyone knows what that means. Chimeny is letting go of the reins.

Back at Maddie and Chimney’s house, Maddie gets home to seeing Chimney having a lot of fun with the kids. Chimney finally accepts that Harry has what it takes, and then just casually mentions how Harry saved his life.

Harry also shares his first week as a firefighter with Athena and May — and Athena is very impressed with hearing about three new uses of vinegar. The two are extremely proud of him, though, and they gift him with Bobby’s pocket knife. He gets a piece of Bobby to carry with him. I love how much Bobby meant to all members of the Grant family.

So, what’s the second box? It’s what Bobby would have given him if he was still here, a new pocket knife. It’s time for Harry to be his own man and place his own scratches and marks on it. Laying them side-by-side, we can see how much Bobby focused on his job.

At Christopher’s school, Abigail turns up to take Christopher “home,” sharing that Eddie asked her to get him. We all know that’s not the case, but we’ll have to wait until Thursday, Feb. 26 for answers. This is going to be excruciating.

911 returns on Thursday, Feb. 26 with all-new episodes on ABC.
