Day 1: Launch of the OpenAI o1 model and ChatGPT Pro subscription
The 12 Days of OpenAI event began with a bang on December 5, 2024, with the release of the OpenAI o1 model. This model has been in preview mode for several, but now it’s ready to handle complex reasoning tasks with greater efficiency and accuracy than the other models. OpenAI also introduced the ChatGPT Pro subscription, a premium $200 monthly plan.
This subscription offers unlimited access to GPT-4o, Advanced Voice Mode, and an exclusive version of the o1 model tailored for complex problem-solving. It also allows for more access to Sora, which we’ll talk about soon.

Day 2: Introducing reinforcement learning fine-tuning

Day 3: Launch of Sora, the text-to-video generator
On December 9, OpenAI unveiled Sora, a groundbreaking text-to-video AI generator that enables users to create high-quality video clips by simply inputting text prompts. User interest in this release was so high OpenAI had to pause new users from giving it a try for the time being.
Day 4: Introducing Canvas for ChatGPT
December 10 saw the launch of Canvas, a collaborative editing tool integrated into ChatGPT. It’s been available since October, but it’s worth re-introducing it as part of the 12 days of OpenAI event. It provides users with a collaborative interface for writing and coding projects and allows users to edit and refine AI-generated content in a side-by-side workspace.
Day 5: ChatGPT integration with Apple Intelligence
On December 11, OpenAI announced a significant partnership with Apple, integrating ChatGPT into Apple’s AI platform as its latest update. This collaboration hopes to enhance the user experience across Apple devices, allowing for more intuitive and intelligent interactions with AI.
