In October 2024, Xbox users are getting a nice upgrade as Microsoft will release a refreshed version of the Xbox Series X, codenamed Brooklin. It’s a digital-only console with significant improvements over the current model. Keep reading to learn more about it.

The all-digital transition

The Brooklin will eliminate the disc drive, solidifying Microsoft’s move toward digital gaming. An all-digital console can help reduce clutter around your home, and it is also better for the environment since there won’t be so much packaging going into our landfills. While the current Xbox Series X allows for physical media, the Brooklin will require you to rely on cloud gaming and the Xbox Game Pass or other subscription services.

Brooklin storage

Despite being an all-digital console, the Xbox Brooklin will provide users with plenty of memory, doubling the amount available on the current system with 2TB SSD. Anyone who enjoys playing more than one title at a time will appreciate this increase, as some games can be quite large, and it’s a pain to be constantly deleting and downloading games every time you want to play.

Cutting-edge connectivity

The new Brooklin also introduces several noteworthy improvements in connectivity. It will be the first Xbox to feature Wi-Fi 6E, which promises faster wireless speeds, lower latency, and better interference management. Better connectivity can make multiplayer gaming, streaming, and cloud gaming much smoother, and it will also pave the way for more comfortable wireless peripherals. It will also improve the connection between the console and the controller.

A new design for a new era

The Brooklin is also notable for moving away from the traditional cube-like shape and adopting a cylindrical design that resembles a high-tech device from the future. The sleek charcoal-grey exterior, combined with its smaller, more energy-efficient components, makes it not only visually distinct but also more environmentally friendly, and it will use approximately 15% less power than the standard model.

New Controller, Enhanced Features

Another exciting thing that many Xbox users are talking about is the release of a new controller that currently has the codename Sebile. It boasts haptic feedback, accelerometer-based “lift to wake” functionality, and direct-to-cloud gaming features that will provide a more immersive gaming experience from a controller that has a longer battery life.

How much will it cost?

Insiders expect the Xbox Brooklin to cost the same as the standard edition at about $499.

When will the Xbox Brooklin be on sale?

While we couldn’t find an exact date for release, most insiders expect it to come out in October, which is the time for the holiday season.
