With so many AI tools available right now, it can be hard to understand why we would want to pay for a subscription. If you’ve been struggling with the same question, keep reading to find out if the free or paid version is better for you.

What’s Available for Free Users?

OpenAI’s new GPT-4o model is now free for everyone to use, and it’s more powerful than the versions that were out before, including Chat GPT 4, which is under the paid subscription plan. GPT-4o has powerful language processing capabilities and includes web browsing, memory, and the ability to upload and analyze files and photos, which you had to pay for before. You also have access to the GPT Store and the user-created apps.

Free User Limitations

The free GPT-4o plan does have some limitations, including fewer prompts per time block and slower response time during peak hours, which might make it unusable if you depend on ChatGPT to be available when you need it.

Benefits of ChatGPT Plus

  • Plus, subscribers can send five times as many prompts to GPT-4o. However, the exact number of prompts or the size of the time period is extremely vague at best.
  • Any new features that arrive are rolled out to new users first.
  • Plus subscribers can create interactive charts and tables from datasets and upload files directly from cloud services like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive.

Who Should Consider Staying with the Free Tier?

The free plan is a better option for anyone who rarely uses ChatGPT and only wants to experiment to try out the new features. It can be great for recipes, travel ideas, gardening tips, creating an image for social media, and answering a question. It’s a little slower, and there will be times when it seems like you only asked a few questions before it says you reached your limit, or it kicks you to a slower model, but you will regain access in a short time.

Who Should Go with the Plus Plan?

The Plus Plan is better for anyone who uses ChatGPT regularly. It’s faster, and you will reach far fewer imits. You also need it to create GPTs that are available in the marketplace.

What is GPT-4o Mini?

OpenAI has recently introduced GPT-4o Mini, a smaller, cost-effective variant of its advanced GPT-4o model that OpenAI hopes will make AI accessible to more developers by offering a balanced combination of performance and affordability. It outperforms ChatGPT3.5 in every way and is less expensive. It will also be available to free users when they’ve used up their GPT-4o  prompts.
