How to use Facebook's Meta AI for personalized profile pictures
By Ed Malaker
With all of the AI tools going around, it’s easy for some to fall under the radar, and one that doesn’t seem to get as much discussion as you would think it would is Meta AI. It’s available on Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram and has many of the same abilities as ChatGPT, including text and image generation.
One of the most fun tools to try out is “Imagine Me,” a tool which allows you to create stylized images based on yourself using prompts to help you create profile pictures and posts. Keep reading to learn how to give it a try.
How to use Meta’s AI to create a unique profile picture
To give Imagine Me a try, open the Facebook messenger app on your phone and use the search bar at the top to look for MetaAI. The app will allow you to upload photos, so this option is only available on a smartphone.
Open a chat with Meta AI and type “@imagine,” followed by a descriptive phrase, like “@imagine me as a rock star.”
After typing the prompt, Meta AI will request that you upload several photos of yourself from different angles. This step is important as it allows the AI to create a more personalized image based on your likeness.
Once your photos are uploaded, Meta AI will use them to generate an AI-stylized profile picture, which can be anything from a fantasy avatar to a high-tech or artistic rendering.
Review the generated options and select your favorite to use as your profile picture. You can also download them and use them later.
Why does Meta have this feature?
This feature is part of Meta’s broader push into AI personalization, building on its Llama model to offer creative tools across its platforms. It helps showcase AI's abilities while making the platform a little more fun. The best part is that it’s free to use, whereas many other similar services charge or limit your use.
Currently, Meta AI’s Imagine Me function is rolling out, so availability might vary by region and app. This tool lets users try unique digital identities while also supporting privacy features like photo deletion from Meta AI settings if desired. There will also likely be more features coming out soon.
