The CrowPanel-CM4 Display is a versatile 7-inch touchscreen device built around the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4). Thanks to its versatile design and extensive array of interfaces, it’s perfect for DIY enthusiasts and industrial applications.

It features a 1024×600 IPS display with a 5-point capacitive touch, ensuring clear visuals and responsive interaction. Pre-installed with Raspberry Pi OS and Node-RED, it offers a user-friendly environment for developing and managing IoT applications. Right now, we are going to look at the many different wireless options available for your projects.

Crowpanel wireless options

Bluetooth

Bluetooth is a wireless technology included in the CrowPanel-CM4 Display (through the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4) that enables short-range communication between devices. This versatile feature adds significant functionality to your projects, particularly those involving data transfer, device control, or wireless peripherals.

Use Bluetooth to use a keyboard or mouse wirelessly, stream media, transfer files, and much more without internet access.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi provides high-speed communication and is ideal for DIY projects that require internet access or real-time interaction. It complements other connectivity options like LoRa by providing faster speeds for data-intensive tasks.

Wi-Fi allows you to stream media, automate your home, and much more.

LoRa (optional)

LoRa (short for Long Range) is a low-power, wide-area networking (LPWAN) protocol designed for wireless communication over long distances, typically ranging from several kilometers in urban areas to tens of kilometers in rural settings. It operates in unlicensed frequency bands such as 433 MHz, 868 MHz (Europe), and 915 MHz (USA), making it accessible worldwide without the need for expensive licenses.

LoRa is popular in Internet of Things (IoT) projects due to its long-range, energy efficiency, and affordability. It’s perfect for environmental monitoring, livestock tracking, weather stations, and more.

4G LTE (optional)

The CrowPanel-CM4 Display includes support for an LTE antenna, enhancing its capabilities for mobile network communication. The LTE antenna, combined with a compatible 4G LTE module, allows the device to connect to cellular networks,

With 4G LTE, you can build projects that utilize internet access and remote communication. Provide internet access for devices in vehicles, boats, or temporary setups. You can also control drones, access cloud storage, and much more. It is a game-changer for mobile and remote projects, allowing the CrowPanel-CM4 Display to work seamlessly in environments where traditional wired or Wi-Fi connections are unavailable.

GPS

The GPS antenna on the Crowpanel ensures stronger satellite connectivity, even in environments where signal reception might be challenging when utilizing GPS connectivity in your projects.

Using one of many GPS modules, you can create projects that track the location of vehicles, goods, or equipment. You can also add location data to photos, videos, or sensor readings. Creating custom navigation tools is also possible.

The pre-installed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth make the CrowPanel versatile out-of-the-box for many projects. For extended functionality like LoRa, GPS, or 4G connectivity, you can add additional modules based on your project’s needs.
