Kevin Smith of Clerks fame had a cameo in Star Wars: the Force Awakens

Kevin Smith always finds ways of inserting Star Wars references in his movies. It turns out he had a cameo in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Producer, writer, and actor Kevin Smith is best known for his cult film Clerks and a slew of other equally quirky flicks, many of which feature Star Wars references. Smith is a huge Star Wars fan, but kept his cameo in the film close to the vest, even if he didn’t keep his enthusiasm for the film a secret.

Last month, Smith reviewed the movie on the Fatman on Batman podcast, saying via “He did the impossible. He brought the magic back. He put the ‘Star’ in Star Wars, man.” One of the stars in Star Wars was Kevin Smith himself. Smith did not have a big part, but he joined a long list of celebrity cameos as the voice of one of the Stormtroopers.

Smith is responsible for one of the greatest Star Wars references of all time. When Randal and Dante discuss the construction of the Death Star:

Randal: A construction job of that magnitude would require a helluva lot more manpower than the Imperial army had to offer. I’ll bet there were independent contractors working on that thing: plumbers, aluminum siders, roofers.
Dante: Not just Imperials, is what you’re getting at.
Randal: Exactly. In order to get it built quickly and quietly they’d hire anybody who could do the job. Do you think the average storm trooper knows how to install a toilet main? All they know is killing and white uniforms.

Coincidentally, or perhaps not, Finn said he worked in sanitation as a stormtrooper.
