Thanks to a poster who goes by the name NightWalker at the forums of Ortud.com, we have what are allegedly images of a dummy model of the upcoming iPad Air update, which he or she refers to as both iPad Air II and iPad 6, indicating uncertainty about the name. A dummy model is basically the body of the device without the internal components. This could be used to test accessories or just to assess the size and feel of the pre-production devices.
NightWalker could not offer much more information beyond his images, saying he or she received the dummy model from “a good friend” and that no specs or anything like that were available. We have not heard much about this rumored device, so this is about as good information as you could hope for at this stage in the game. A reputable source told AppleInsider that the next iPad will sport the new-generation A8 processor, which isn’t exactly a big surprise.

This clearly isn’t a major update, but that hasn’t been Apple’s style with this line or really the iPhone line either. The iPad Air debuted last year, which qualifies as a substantial upgrade. As they often do, they seem to be opting for just a marginal change in the first year after the Air’s original release.
